Simon Ings is the author of nine novels. He spent some years editing New Scientist's culture pages and now contributes to New Scientist, The Telegraph, The Times, Financial Times and The Spectator. His latest non-fiction book is Engineers of Human Souls, about four 20th-century writers and the dictators who were their patrons. His book Stalin and the Scientists was longlisted for the Baillie Gifford prize for non-fiction. He maintains a minimal presence @simonings on X. His website is simonings.net.
