Timothy Revell is New Scientist's Executive editor. He has previously been Deputy US Editor, jointly responsible for launching a New York bureau, Comment and Culture Editor, responsible for the Views and Backpages sections of the publication both in print and online, and before that Technology News Editor. He has also run New Scientist's diversity internship scheme.
He has reported on mind-reading devices, artificial intelligence and prime numbers, among other things and has broken many news stories, including a huge data leak at the Cambridge Psychometrics Centre. He has interviewed amazing people, such as David Attenborough, Kate Crawford and Demis Hassabis.
He regularly talks about science and technology on podcasts and radio, such as on New Scientist Weekly, the Naked Scientists and WNYC's Science Friday. He is also an accomplished public speaker and events host.
He is author of the popular mathematics book The Secret Lives of Numbers with Tomoko L. Kitagawa about how the history of mathematics is far more diverse, varied and interesting than often told. It is published by Penguin in the UK and HarperCollins in the US. His first popular science book was about how mathematics is used today.
Timothy has a master's in mathematics from the University of Bath and a PhD in computer science from the University of Strathclyde.
